Our Impact

Kris Foundation supports organisations with a strong ethos and innovative initiatives with a transformative impact. These include organisations within the realm of traditional arts and visual arts. Alongside presenting classical music concerts, Kris Foundation has sponsored a variety of classical music, and educational and outreach initiatives including KKHeArt (an art therapy programme run by the KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital), New Opera Singapore, Metropolitan Festival Orchestra, Ding Yi Music Company, More than Music concert series, Asian Civilisations Museum’s Lecture Series and National Gallery Singapore.

In 2016, Kris Foundation committed to sponsoring an annual concerto competition for music students at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Art (NAFA), and in 2017/2018, Kris Foundation provided two full-tuition scholarships to music students at NAFA.

In 2020, the Kris Foundation Viola Masterclass Fund was set-up with the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, National University of Singapore, with a six-figure pledge from Kris Foundation. The endowment fund will enable students access to learning from an internationally-acclaimed visiting violist each year.

In support of the third edition of the Singapore International Violin Competition in January 2022, Kris Foundation is proud to be sponsoring the Commissioned Work and Prize for the Best Performer of the Commissioned Work. Submissions were open to all Singaporean composers.

Kris Foundation has given out over S$1 million in donations, sponsorships and in-kind support since 2009.

In recognition of Kris Tan’s support towards the arts through the Kris Foundation, she has been awarded the Patron of the Arts Award eight times, including the Distinguished Patron of the Arts Award in 2019 and 2020.

Instituted in 1983, the Patron of the Arts Awards celebrate and recognise organisations and individuals who have contributed signi cantly toward the development of the arts. The generous contributions by patrons who have o ered nancial support, resources, skills and time have helped Singapore’s arts scene ourish over the years. They play a valuable role in helping to build a vibrant and sustainable arts scene in Singapore.

The support of arts patrons is an important component of the Government’s efforts in developing a sustainable arts scene, in line with the priorities of Our SG Arts Plan. We have witnessed the impact made by sustained patronage of our long term partners. (...) Ms. Kris Tan Lay Peng, has helped to nurture the next generation of classical musicians. She has supported the Singapore Symphony Orchestra and the music education of NAFA students through the Kris Foundation Fund Scholarship and NAFA-Kris Foundation Fund Concerto Competition. This has helped bring classical music to more Singaporeans.
— Ms. Grace Fu, Then-Minister for Culture, Community and Youth, at the Patron of the Arts Awards Ceremony 2019
Kris is passionate about classical music and her foundation is committed to the nurturing young music talent in Singapore. We learnt about the good work she had been doing through the Kris Foundation and invited her to join the SSO Ladies’ League in 2013. Since then, she has been an active ambassador to the SSO and has helped raise much needed funds for the National Orchestra and its a liated performing groups. It is indeed a joy to work with Kris and her e orts to champion classical music in Singapore is something all of us greatly admire.
— Ms. Odile Benjamin, Chairlady, Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO) Ladies' League
CFS started working with Kris Foundation in 2012. We took care of the fund administration and governance aspects of managing the foundation, so that Kris herself can focus on what she does best, which is identifying and nurturing young talents.

Kris is always open to consider new opportunities, ideas and partnerships on how best to help young talents showcase their music and talent to the public. In addition, Kris is very hands-on, taking special interest in all her young talents and showering them with motherly love and care. She is not just a philanthropist, but one with a warm smile and a kind heart. It is truly a joy to work with her.

Throughout all these years, one thing has remained constant: Kris’ passion to identify and cultivate local talent and her fervour to instill in others the love for beautiful music.

With such commitment and dedication, we believe that Kris Foundation will take Singapore’s arts and talents beyond our shores so that they can be appreciated by audiences at home and abroad.
— Ms. Catherine Loh, Chief Executive Officer, The Community Foundation of Singapore
NAFA is immensely grateful to the Kris Foundation for its generous donation to set up scholarships and to present concerto competitions since 2017.
