On 4th August 2013 at the Esplanade Recital Studio, Kris Foundation presented Evocations, a solo piano recital featuring Singaporean pianist Khoo Hui Ling. This recital served as a homecoming recital, while she was pursuing her Doctorate in Musical Arts at the University of Oregon. Hui Ling selected a scintillating programme that showcased her lyrical musicality and technical virtuosity in a variety of repertoire.

Dr. Khoo Hui Ling is an academic faculty member at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, and Founder and Pedagogy Consultant at The Music Studios, where she mentors piano teachers and coaches young pianists. A curious soul with diverse interests in music, Hui Ling’s research interests lie in how music interacts across cultures and various artistic disciplines. For her doctoral thesis, she produced short documentaries that show how Chinese traditional music and painting come together in Tan Dun’s 8 Memories in Watercolor, culminating in a highly praised multimedia performance of the work. Her presentation “When Words Meet Music – Di erent Dimensions of Musical Poetry in the Music of Robert Schumann” has won prizes in the Oregon Graduate Forum.
