Tango Salon

  • Esplanade Recital Studio 1 Esplanade Drive Singapore, 038981 Singapore (map)

On 8th July 2016 at the Esplanade Recital Studio, Kris Foundation presented Tango Salon, featuring Singaporean violinist Gabriel Lee. Delivering a fresh spin on the classical violin recital with a dynamic tango programme, Gabriel was joined by pianist Jonathan Shin, cellist James Ng and harpist Charity Kiew. Our founder Kris Tan saw great potential in Gabriel Lee when she attended his graduation recital at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music. She sought to bring a different music experience and unique programming of Kris Foundation through Tango Salon.

Kris saw great potential in Gabriel when she attended his graduation recital. Gabriel Lee is a multi-faceted musician: he performs early music with his baroque violin, crossover music with his instrumental band the Lorong Boys and other fusion groups, and fresh interpretations of the classical canon on his modern violin. His playing has been described as having a “breathtaking intensity, grabbing listeners by the lapels without letting go”, and “a passion and concentration that was hard to surpass” by The Straits Times.
