Wassy Fantasia: Miyuki Washimiya Piano Recital

  • Esplanade Recital Studio 1 Esplanade Drive Singapore, 038981 Singapore (map)

On 17th November 2009 at the Esplanade Recital Studio, Kris Tan presented Wassy Fantasia: Miyuki Washimiya Piano Recital. As the rst concert that evolved into Kris Foundation’s signature recital series, it was Kris’s desire to be part of the nation’s arts scene that prompted her to host Japanese pianist Miyuki Washimiya in her debut recital in Singapore.

Singaporean composer Tan Chan Boon’s Reminiscence, Op. 55 was originally commissioned for the Young Virtuoso Recital of the 2008 Singapore International Piano Festival. Its second movement - Fugue I - originally composed in 1995, was a standalone work that received its world premiere in 2000. It was later adapted to become the second movement of Tan’s Op. 55. Tan likens the work to a journey deep down into a forest, eventually seeking light and hope.
